2009 News

September 9, 2009

Another successful event that saw sponsor and rider contributions towards the safety of all track motorcycle riders was held recently. Unfortunately these days, it looks like nothing can be accomplished without financial support from the BIG players in the industry. Having that in mind and with Max Mercier’s desire for friendship and safety, Max’s father Michel, came up with the idea of a fundraiser track day in 2008. This event was organized in conjunction with the Annual “Max Memorial Breakfast” established in 2006 by Max’s good friend Rahul Dua.

The Max memorial breakfast has always been a successful event and over the past three years, it has brought the entire racing community together to start the season on a positive note. We have been raising money to promote SAFETY and support for our tight knit community. This year’s breakfast was followed up with another great event as we elevated the level of effort and planning to make the second Max Safety Fund Track Day a phenomenal success on August 28th, 2009.

“With the great organization by the key players involved, the desire to ride by the participants on that perfect sunny day, the camaraderie overwhelming the paddock and the sympathy that every one showed my wife Odette and I towards the devastating event that took place 4 years ago to our son Max, it was enough to keep me walking on clouds even until today”, said Michel Mercier from FAST riding school.

It was a pleasure for the entire team to see a turn out of over 90 riders full of excitement and friendship combined with the desire to improve their personal safety on the race track. The volunteer team and the Mercier family are deeply touched yet again and that feels amazing.

“In the past few years we purchased a fully Automated Cardiac Defibrillator/CPR assistance unit as our first contribution to the Canadian Road Racing Community in 2007. Furthermore, last year we were able to concentrate our efforts on the SMP corner 2 (pro track) run off issues, with generous help from Shannonville Motorsports Park matching every dollar spent at the infamous pro track corner two” says Rahul Dua from GoLo Racing. A survey for corner improvements was available online at www.GoLoRacing.com in conjunction with the handouts provided at the riders meetings on saturday mornings, to get the riders’ feedback. The results showed the majority were in favour of fixing the Pro track corner two, since it was the biggest concern among riders. During the Parts Canada Superbike finale at Shannonville this past weekend, corner two improvements were fully tested and approved by the riders, allowing them to continue their contention in the exciting Parts Canada Superbike Series SMP round.

“After confirming the numbers with our official treasurer Odette Mercier, the funds generated in 2009 reached the grand total of $12,908.00. This year has been the best Fundraising year for us and it may be the best year in Canadian road racing history” mentioned Rahul Dua and AJ Tibayan of Hot Lap Events. We would like to raise the bar in 2010 making use of all our possible resources.

Any funds generated will be used towards improving the safety of the track riders. Who else should we ask but you the “RIDERS” themselves to give us all your feedback and suggestions? We would like to hear from you about the your most critical safety concerns. Your feedback is invaluable and can be submitted online ballot at the following link http://www.goloracing.com/maxMercierSurvey2009.htm or any websites mentioned below.
